Dozens of caravans have pitched up illegally on the South Common in Lincoln.

The City of Lincoln Council was informed that ten vehicles owned by travellers had arrived on Wednesday, June 14, on the site regularly used for fairs and circuses.

Officers are currently monitoring the situation alongside the City of Lincoln Council.

David Charysz, Open Spaces Officer said: “We were made aware of an unauthorised encampment at South Common on Wednesday and officers went to the site to conduct an assessment.

“The owners of the vehicles were yesterday served with a notice to leave the area within 24 hours.

“We will continue to closely monitor the situation, and will follow the legal process to ensure the encampment leave quickly and safely.”

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “This was reported to us on June 14 (incident 287).

“We have visited the site and continue to monitor the situation in partnership with the City of Lincoln Council.”
