A record-breaking 45,000 people attended the Woodhall Spa 1940s Festival last weekend, organisers have announced.

The festival, held over July 15 and 16, was celebrating its sixth year and has surpassed last year’s record of 40,000.

Despite a rainy start to Saturday, Sunday’s glorious weather ensured a popular turnout as people from across the country attended the event.

Suggs, lead singer from popular British band Madness, attended the festival as part of filming for TV show World War Two Treasure Hunters while Channel 4 cameras attended as part of filming for Britain’s Best Village.

Chair of the organising committee Andy Hunter said: “I’d like to thank everyone who came to Woodhall Spa for our festival this weekend.

“This has been the biggest event yet, and it’s a genuine delight to see so many people getting into the swing of things and creating such a wonderful atmosphere across the village.

“It takes 12 months of work to put this show on, and it really pays off to see just how many enjoy coming along.”

Highlights of the event included a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast, musical entertainment and activities for all of the family.

The festival is run entirely by volunteers who make no money from the event.
