Road closed as fuel spill causes havoc with drivers crashing and spinning out of control

One car flipped over as a result of the spillage.

Update 4pm, September 18: The road has now reopened.


A fuel spillage has seen numerous cars crash and spin out of control in Lincolnshire this morning.

The B1398, Willoughton Road, Blyborough was closed in both directions after fuel spilled onto the road, causing a number of cars to crash.

The road was closed at 9am on Monday, September 18 and has since had gritters on the road between the A631 Harpswell and Coachroad Hill and Dog Kennel Road.

A number of cars came off the road as a result of the spillage, with another three reportedly seen spinning out of control.

One car was also spotted on its roof following the incident.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “The incident number for the original report is 61 of September 18, reported at 07.50am.

“There was a significant diesel spill on the B1398, Willoughton Road, Blyborough, that caused difficulties in driving conditions.

“Several vehicles have skidded off the road, however there were no injuries, only minor damage to vehicles.

“Highways are cleaning the roads.”
