New car park to open in Gainsborough

The car park will open in time for Christmas.

A new pay and display car park will open in Gainsborough.

West Lindsey District Council has bought the former Lidl supermarket site overlooking the River Trent, turning part of the land into the Riverside Car Park.

The former site on Ropery Road had 95 car parking spaces available for use by shoppers.

It will reopen as a car park from Wednesday, December 20.

In January, the council will carry out improvement works and create an additional 30 spaces, with the car park closing for three weeks.

Councillor Sheila Bibb, chairman of the Prosperous Communities Committee at West Lindsey District Council, said: “Riverside Car Park is part of our regeneration and car park strategy to provide additional capacity for the town, which we hope will further support residents and businesses as part of our long term goals to support the transformation of Gainsborough.

“In the short term the extra spaces will help support the town centre vibrancy along with the exciting developments already taking place across the town such as the new hotel, restaurant and improvements to the shop fronts on Market Street.

“We have chosen to do the work after Christmas to minimise disruptions and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by the works taking place but our aim is to complete the work as quickly as possible and we thank you all for your patience.”
