Plans for new 92-seat auditorium and third screen at Kinema in the Woods

Owners say a third screen is ‘much-needed’.

Plans have been submitted for a third screen and 92-seat auditorium to be built at Kinema in the Woods.

Owners of the site have lodged the proposals with East Lindsey District Council to expand the site on Coronation Road in Woodhall Spa.

Admissions to the popular cinema which recently celebrated its 95th birthday have increased by over 75% in the last five years and the Kinema is reaching full capacity on a weekly basis, leaving the current owner struggling to keep up with demand.

The development proposed is the construction of a 92-seater auditorium to provide a ‘much needed’ third screen for the existing cinema.

Works would comprise minor internal alterations to provide access to the proposed auditorium and the construction of a linking building.

This would create one new full-time job and several part-time roles.

The original screen (screen 1) has a current overall capacity of 231 seats, which includes four wheelchair spaces and the second screen was added in 1994 to provide an additional 92-seater auditorium, with one space for a wheelchair.

In preparation for the additional auditorium, the current owner has made arrangements to increase the parking available at the cinema by creating a further 108 spaces.

This addition was previously approved by councillors.

Councillors on East Lindsey District Council’s planning committee will discuss the plans at a later date.
