Over 300 new homes approved on former North Lincolnshire RAF base

It will also include 30 affordable housing units.

North Lincolnshire councillors approved plans for 302 new homes on a former RAF base in Kirton In Lindsey.

The planning committee voted unanimously for the proposals which will see the homes built on the vacant RAF site.

The application was submitted by Green Meadow Limited and sought outline permission for the homes plus public open space.

Permission was also being sought to demolish current buildings and all matters would be reserved apart from access to the site.

Concerns were raised about the effect that the amount of occupants living on the site would have on local amenities in Kirton and the traffic on the surrounding B1398 and B1400.

However, Philip Scrafton, speaking on behalf of the planning committee, said that councillors had to remember that the site is earmarked for development.

“The site has been earmarked for development under this council’s local plan and has undergone consultation,” he said.

“I understand concerns regarding traffic and I’m sure that is something we can look into.”

Following publication of the planning committees agenda, an agreement was made on the section 106 agreement for the application.

The planning officer said that the applicant would have to make contributions of £100,000 to local health services, £254,430 to public open space and more than £3,000 to traffic regulation.

A sum of £818,923 would also be committed to local education.

An agreement was also put in place that a portion of land on the former RAF base would be allocated to community allotments.

The council’s planning officer added that 30 homes on the site would also need to be allocated for affordable housing.

Meanwhile, North Lincolnshire Council’s Highways department said it would look into having more traffic monitoring in the surrounding roads of the site and in the town’s market place to ease concerns over increased traffic.

Ward members Councillor Neil Poole and Trevor Foster welcomed the agreement reached by the council’s planning department.

“It’s good to see this development moving forward,” said Councillor Foster.

“We know that Lincolnshire is full of empty airfields and it’s sad to see them get that way.

“The sooner we get cracking on with this the better.”

Councillor Poole added that it was good to see the council’s planning department work to get the application through.
