Gritters at the ready as cold snap heads to Lincolnshire

Winter is still here.

There may be Easter eggs popping up on shop shelves, but the arrival of spring will be interrupted by a flurry of winter weather in Lincolnshire next week.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow in many parts of Lincolnshire and much of the east of the county for Monday, February 26 and Tuesday, February 27.

Lincolnshire County Council is lining up its gritters to battle snow and ice right up until mid-March as temperatures are expected to fall to, in some cases, double minus figures.

Councillor Richard Davies, Executive Member for Highways and Transport at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “During the day, temperatures will struggle to rise above 0 and in the wind will feel like -4 or -5.

“There is also a risk of snow coming in from the east, although the forecast is uncertain. Where snow falls it will not thaw due to low temperatures and will settle quickly.”

Snow is expected in the south of the county between 4pm on Monday until just before midnight on Tuesday.

Met Office forecasters said snow showers may become persistent throughout the day Tuesday and there is the potential for travel delays.

They added “Power cuts may also occur and other services, such as mobile phones may be affected.”

On Tuesday, the weather warning extends to the centre and north of the county between 3am and midnight.
