Winterton school stabbing: Girl, 16, named and jailed for attacking welfare officer Joy Simon

Jailed.

A 16-year-old girl who stabbed a school welfare officer at Winterton Community Academy in North Lincolnshire has been named and jailed.

Elisha Burkill stabbed Joy Simon, 61, at the school on September 26 last year.

Police quickly descended on the school and arrested the girl on suspicion of attempted murder.

Judge Jeremy Richardson QC, in sentencing Burkill at Hull Crown Court on Friday, February 2, agreed for restrictions on her identity to be lifted.

Burkill was sentenced to 12 years detention which will include a custodial period of seven years and five years on licence.
