Charity collection nears £1,000 as tributes pour in for car wheel crash victim Amelia, 11

People are coming together to raise money for a cause in her memory.

Amelia Wood, 11 sadly died after she was struck by a car wheel.

Hundreds of people have reacted with shock and sadness after 11-year-old Amelia Wood was tragically killed by a wheel which shot from a 4×4 in Manby Middlegate.

A JustGiving page set up in her memory broke its £540 target in less than 24 hours.

By the time of publishing, supporters have donated more than £850 towards the Nottingham Paediatric Critical Care Unit and the Nottingham University Hospitals Charity, chosen for the care they provided to Amelia.

She had been walking to school on the pavement next to the B1200 in Manby Middlegate when she was struck by the wheel, which had flown from a white Land Rover Discovery, on Tuesday, March 6.

She was airlifted to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham with a severe head injury.

Police confirmed on March 8 that she had passed away in hospital the following day.

Hundreds of people have paid tribute to the Louth Academy student, who also made local headlines for her battle with leukaemia and fund-raising for the Children’s Hospital Charity and Sheffield Children’s Unit when she was just five years old.

Martin Brown, Executive Principal of Louth Academy, said: “Amelia was a well-loved student who will be greatly missed by staff and students at the Academy.

“We are all devastated by such tragic news. She was an active member of our community and was always keen to participate in events.

“Amelia was a keen netball player and represented the Academy in a recent fixture.

“She was a very popular and caring student who always helped and supported her friends.

“Amelia will be remembered at the Academy as a vibrant, passionate and very determined student.”

People left tributes alongside their donations to the charity.

Simon Woods said: “There are no words. All our emergency services are amazing, the help they give in our times of need.”

Layla Johnson posted on Facebook: A beautiful, kind hearted girl who will be greatly missed. We love you Amelia. Our love and thoughts are with you and your family.”

Jay Legg added: “Speechless. Life can be so cruel. RIP little angel Amelia. Fly high and watch over us.”
