Meet the new mayor

Councillors have elected John Briggs as the new Mayor of North Lincolnshire.

Conservative councillor Briggs, member for Axholme North Ward, was sworn in at a mayor making ceremony held at the Civic Centre, Scunthorpe, this morning.

He replaces Councillor Peter Clark as the mayor for the coming year.

Councillor John Evison, member for Barton ward, was elected deputy mayor at the ceremony.

Lindsey Lodge Hospice and the The Firefighters Charity were chosen as the mayor’s charities.

Councillor Briggs said it was a privilege to be elected to serve and represent North Lincolnshire.

He said: “I feel very privileged indeed that I have been offered this position and it is a huge honour.

“My thanks go to Baroness Redfern and Councillor Reed for proposing me as mayor.

“I would also like to thank Peter Clark for representing North Lincolnshire over the past year.

“He will be a hard act to follow.”

At the ceremony it was also announced that outgoing mayor Councillor Clarke raised more than £76,000 for his chosen charity When You Wish Upon A Star.
