Council has “limited powers” to tackle Lincoln drug problems

The council say more investment is needed

The City of Lincoln Council has admitted to The Lincolnite that its powers are “limited” and more funding is needed to tackle the city centre’s drug problems.

Due to the rise in drug taking on the streets, it’s difficult to walk around Lincoln without seeing someone who is under the influence.

Many services and volunteers work hard in the city to help vulnerable people and addicts, authorities in Lincoln have admitted that more needs to be done.

The Lincolnite arranged an interview with City of Lincoln Council leader, Ric Metcalfe. He said:

  • The council’s intervention team cannot seize drugs
  • Other agencies need to contribute funds
  • People are travelling into the city to get these drugs
  • The city needs more investment to fund public services, such as mental health and addiction
