Memorial service set for former council leader

It will take place at Lincoln Cathedral

The memorial service of former council leader Marion Brighton OBE will take place at Lincoln Cathedral next month.

Marion died in August at the age of 88 and her memorial service will take place on Friday, November 9 at 2pm at Lincoln Cathedral.

As previously reported, North Kesteven District Council paid tribute to Marion, who was first elected in 1973 in order to shape the emerging authority which came into existence the following year.

She served as a parish councillor in Washingborough for 44 years and led the district council for 16 years and was twice chairperson.

Marion stepped down from her position as leader in March 2017 due to ill health, with councillor Richard Wright taking over her role.

In August, Richard said: “Marion’s dedication to local government was remarkable and she made an impact that will no doubt be felt for many years.

“We were saddened to hear of her passing and our thoughts go out to her family at this time.”
