Holbeach football pitch development to get more houses

Housing plans for a Holbeach development are set to move the goalposts from a previous application when they appear before South Holland District Council next week.

Developers Ashwood Homes are asking for 32 homes, including 24 market housing and eight affordable houses, to be built off Penny Hill Road.

The plan is a move away from a previous one from 2014 which wanted to create 26 affordable houses and four market houses along with a sports pavilion and grass pitches — the latter of which have since been built.

A report before councillors next week recommends approving the plans.

It says: “The proposal would contribute towards housing supply and future occupants may work locally and support local services and make a contribution to the local economy.

“There may also be employment opportunities associated with the construction, albeit in the short-term.”

It adds that the proposal would provide housing required to meet the needs of present and future generations.

Consultation with local residents has raised concerns over the nearby infrastructure and highway safety as well as noise disturbance and sewer capacity.

As part of the consultation Lincolnshire County Council has asked for £159,766 towards education, and the NHS has asked for £14,208.

A previous variation for 44 homes including 29 market and 15 affordable were previously rejected in October 2016.
