New tea room with sweet shop twist opening in Lincoln

It will offer old fashioned traditional sweets
Matt Smith and Luke Sleight are getting ready to launch their new tea room with a sweet shop twist in Lincoln.

A new tea room with a traditional sweet shop twist is set to open in the Boultham Park area of Lincoln and the owners say they are very excited about their new venture.

As previously reported, Up the Junxion, which is located next to the Co-op on Boultham Park Road, closed on Sunday, October 28 with high overheads meaning it was no longer viable to keep trading, but the owners have already come up with an exciting new concept to replace it.

Matt Smith, 33, and his partner Luke Sleight, 45, who owns Junxion Hairdressing and went on to open At The Junxion Beauty and the cafe, will open their new business ‘Smiths Tea Room and Traditional Sweet Shop’ at the same premises.

An official opening date is not yet known, but the couple are ready to get stuck in with their new concept idea.

Matt told The Lincolnite: “We have decided to strip it right back in our offering and be more targeted, so we are going to try a traditional tea room – offering cakes from local business women ‘Custom Bakes’ as we always prefer to use local Lincoln companies, independent businesses like ourselves.

“The idea is a traditional tea room, cakes, of course Afternoon Tea as we do this currently and we have had nothing but raving reviews about it so this will be our core focus. We will also offer freshly made sandwiches, lite bite breakfast options etc, lite bite lunches (but nothing on the current scale).

“We also plan to use the tea room to encourage locals to use it as a meeting place for example knitting meetings, card making, anything to do with bringing local people together, themed nights etc.

“The twist…all this alongside a traditional sweet shop – obviously we will need to build this aspect up slowly due to financial strain this past year keeping the cafe open and going.

“We want to offer all the old fashioned traditional sweets alongside the tea room, we are hoping that this will set us aside from other places and make us different as I don’t believe anywhere in Lincoln city offer this concept currently.”
