Former A46 pub set for nursery go-ahead

Plans to turn a former pub in Witham St Hughs into a day nursery look likely to gain approval.

The Dovecote, on the A46 south of Lincoln, has been closed for the past two years.

Applicants said in the documents two previous tenants had surrendered their leases and left unpaid debts, indicating the business was not viable as a pub.

Now plans have been submitted to North Kesteven District Council top open a day nursery for over 100 children in its place.

The nursery would hold a maximum of 140 children and would be open between 7am and 7pm on weekdays and 10am to 4pm on weekends.

As part of the proposal, a breakfast and after school club would be opened at the centre.

Developers also proposed the installation of nature trails and the possibility of animals to keep on the land.

It has been estimated that the change of use to a nursery would also create around 30 jobs in the area.

North Kesteven District Council has been recommended to approved the plans when they are brought before the planning committee on Tuesday, November 20.

Outline planning permission in the nearby village of Witham St Hughs has been granted for a further 1,250 homes.
