Popular Chinese buffet gets one star hygiene rating

It has jointly the lowest rating in the city

A popular Chinese buffet restaurant has been given a ‘one’ hygiene rating, putting it in among the lowest rated food businesses currently operating in Lincoln.

The Taste on Silver Street was slapped with a ‘one’, out of a possible five, hygiene rating after a recent inspection by the City of Lincoln Council.

Staff were told that “major improvement” was needed when preparing and cooking the food they sell.

The rating is made up of a range of three factors:

  • Hygienic food handling – Including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage – Major improvement necessary
  • Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building –Including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene – Generally satisfactory
  • Management of food safety – System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future – Major improvement necessary

The restaurant was taken over by new management in January 2017.

It markets itself as an all-you-can-eat buffet of Chinese, Malaysian Thai and Japanese dishes in an airy, modern space.

The restaurant has been given 3.5 stars from visitor reviews on TripAdvisor.

The Lincolnite contacted The Taste for a comment but they have not yet responded.

No other restaurants in the city have received a lower food hygiene rating.
