Who will buy the chance to play Nancy, Fagin or Mr Bumble?

A chance to find your voice

Who will buy the wonderful feeling of auditioning for some of the most loved characters in the world of musical theatre?

More than 60 local children auditioned this week, many hoping to be selected to play Oliver or the Artful Dodger.

Adult auditions for The Starring Lincoln Theatre Company’s production of Oliver! will now take place on Sunday, November 18 and Tuesday, November 20 at the Lincoln Cathedral Centre.

UPDATE: Due to high demand, auditions will also run concurrently with the Wednesday rehearsal at The Lights Building, Lincoln College. Visit the website to book a slot.

They’re open to anyone with ambitions for a principal part, with a fondness for a few characters, or to those who’d simply like the chance to show what they’ve got and experience a fun and supportive audition process.

There’s still time to reserve a slot via the online booking forms:

If all slots become fully booked, organisers are looking to provide extra opportunities for people interested in principal parts.

Those auditioning, for any character, must prepare a simple verse and chorus of Oom Pah Pah.

“It’s all done in a very supportive atmosphere”, explained director Ben Poole.

“Anyone can audition, even if they haven’t been to a rehearsal but we would like to see them for the prelim before the call backs. If we feel there is potential we will call people back to look at the character they want to audition for at a later date.

“It’s helpful to see people sing, even if they don’t want a main part, so we can learn something about them as individuals.

“Whatever comes of the audition, they will still be welcomed with open arms into the company.”

Oliver! will be performed in the unique setting of Lincoln Cathedral between August 5 and 16, excluding 11.

The next public rehearsal takes place at the Knights Theatre, Lincoln College, Monks Road on Wednesday from 6.30pm.
