Midwife loses appeal over red hair suspension

She now faces losing her job

Lincoln and Sleaford midwife Donna Crichton has lost her appeal over a suspension because of the bright red colour of her hair.

As previously reported, Donna Crichton, who has over 30 years’ experience working in the NHS, works at the hospitals in Lincoln and Grantham.

She had red hair when she was first employed by ULHT in February 2011, claiming it had never been an issue previously.

Even after the uniform policy was updated in November 2017 nothing was flagged up to her about it.

She then lodged a grievance against United Lincolnshire Hospital Trust’s (ULHT) uniform policy after being told in June her hair colour broke the rules.

Donna said she was “very disappointed” and would be “challenging” the trust’s decision to reject her appeal.

She added: “Shame with all the public comments being shared ULHT don’t take the unions up on their suggestion of suspending this policy while the bigger issues in the trust are addressed like the problems with staffing and retention of staff.”

When The Lincolnite first reported the story, more than 700 people commented in support of Donna’s professionalism.
