Illegal workers found during Lincoln barbers raids

Three workers were found and the barbers faces a heavy fine

Three illegal workers were found by immigration officers during a raid at two Lincoln barbers.

A 22-year-old Iraqi man was found working at Lincoln Barber Shop on High Street and two more Iraqi men, 28-years-old and 35-years-old, were found working at Toby’s Barber Shop on St Benedict’s Square.

Both barber shops are part of a Turkish chain, which has been growing in popularity in recent years.

The Home Office told The Lincolnite checks revealed that all three men had no rights to work and were ordered to report to Immigration Enforcement on a regular basis.

An eyewitness told The Lincolnite that they saw around ten officers raid Lincoln Barber Shop on the High Street at about 5pm on Thursday, January 17.

Both barber shops face heavy fines of £20,000 for every worker if they cannot demonstrate that right-to-work checks were carried out.

The raid was a joint operation between the Home Office and Lincolnshire Police.
