Boys arrested over knife threats at Grimsby supermarket

The area has seen a rise in people carrying weapons

Two teen boys are in custody after a man was threatened with a knife in the car park of a Grimsby supermarket.

Police were called to Ellis Way at 1.45am on Friday, March 15.

Officers arrested two boys aged 17 and 15 on suspicion of brandishing a blade in public.

Two kitchen knives were recovered by officers at the scene.

No one was injured.

The attack happened during a week of action by Humberside Police, which has recorded a rise in the number of people carrying weapons.

The force, along with others across the country, is taking part in Operation Sceptre, which aims to rid the streets of weapons.

Police and Crime Commissioner Keith Hunter told Lincolnshire Reporter there is a growing trend of street violence and crime in North and North East Lincolnshire.

He said: “Part of the solution, absolutely, has to be additional police officers out on the streets getting in the face of people who want to do this.”

Detective Inspector Kerry Bull said: “While, thankfully, we don’t have a serious problem with knife crime in our area, the alleged incident in Grimsby this morning shows that there are those in our community who think it’s acceptable to carry knives.

“What I want to make clear is that it’s not acceptable.

“Too many people have been seriously injured or lost their lives as a result of people carrying knives and we want to act now to stop this from happening to anyone else.”
