Large fire at Grantham recycling business under control

The B1174 remains closed in both directions

A large fire causing toxic fumes at an independent recycling business in Grantham is now under control.

As previously reported, several crews attended the fire at the Environcom site in Grantham during the morning of Monday, March 18.

The B1174 remains closed in both directions. Police cordons are in place.

The blaze broke out inside the building with eight crews from Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire attending the scene.

The fire was located in machinery in the building. An estimated 20 tonnes of plastic waste was on fire. Thick black smoke was coming from the building.

South Kesteven District Council’s environmental health team was at the scene as part of a multi-agency response. All are working with local companies to help them resume normal business as soon as possible.

People living in the area, particularly those at Cheveley Park and staff at nearby businesses, are still advised to stay indoors and keep windows and doors shut.
