Boston United football ground up for sale

The Pilgrims expect to move into their new stadium in 2020

Boston United’s soon-to-be old ground has been put on the market as development of their new stadium reaches a new milestone.

The national league football team will play at York Street until July 2020, which is when the team’s newly renewed lease ends.

If all goes to plan Boston United will then relocate during the summer break to their new stadium in The Quadrant.

As previously reported, The Quadrant will have 500 homes, commercial premises, a food store and a new football stadium.

York Street was put up for sale with Christie & Co, where it was marketed as a substantial area for redevelopment.

The listing leaves out neighbouring music venue The Gliderdome, which has hosted big names like Elton John and Stevie Wonder.

Work was due to start on the stadium in 2017.

David Newton, chairman of Boston United, said work will start on the new stadium ready for next season.

He said: “We were very pleased when the Malkinson family granted a lease extension to help cover the period before the new community stadium will be complete.

“It will be sad to leave the York Street ground which holds so many memories for the club’s fans, but the new stadium will give the club a more secure future.”
