Celebrated musicians to play at eight day jazz festival

The event organisers promise a swinging time at jazz week

Jazz lovers will be-bop their way around the county with some of the country’s top musicians for an eight day festival.

The event organisers promise a swinging, accessible and creative time with around 74 musicians performing in different venues across Lincolnshire.

Musicians will play at 15 different shows from intimate cafes to extravagant settings like Lincoln Cathedrals.

Lincoln performances

BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year and saxophonist Xhosa Cole will kick off the music with a local bans at the LPAC Zing Bar on Friday, May 3. (FREE)

Lincoln’s Blue Room (The Lawn) will see the return of the New York Brass Band, who will bring their energetic dance music on Saturday, May 4.

The Blue Room will also host the Bryan Corbett Quartet on the evening of Sunday, May 5.

The Chris Ingham Quartet will join a choir at Lincoln Cathedral on the morning of Sunday, May 5.

An incredible line-up of jazz stars including Geoff Gascoyne and Dennis Rollins will grace the Blue Room stage on Tuesday, May 7.

On Wednesday, May 8 the same line up will join a choir and musical director Aric Prentice in the Chapter House at Lincoln Cathedral.

The jazz week ends strong on Friday, May 10 with performances from the Suzanne Mellard Quarter in Caffe Portico, Zing Bar and into the night at the Lincoln Hotel. (FREE)

Lincolnshire performances

The Chris Ingham Quartet will bring their highly-rated performance to Grantham on Saturday, May 4 and to the Stamford Arts Centre on Sunday, May 5.

While a trip to the Mason Arms Hotel in Louth will bring the Bryan Corbett Quartet and the Rick Woolgar Trio on Monday, May 6.

Fabulous vocalists like Atila will head to the South Holland Centre on Thursday, May 9 for a chance to relive Nat King Cole story.

Another singer Tina May will join the Andrew Wood Trio at the Grantham Guildhall arts centre on Thursday, May 9.

The Terry O’Toole Theatre in North Hykeham will see Jo Harrop lead her quartet with saxophonist Tony Kofi on Thursday, May 9.
