Lincoln canoers clean up Brayford Pool

Over 30 Lincoln Canoe Club members took part

A manikin, a chair and a shoe were among the bizarre items cleaned from waterways in Lincoln over the weekend.

A team of more than 30 Lincoln Canoe Club members spent Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14 cleaning litter from the Upper Witham and Brayford Pool.

The team paddled from Lincoln Canoe Club on the Brayford Pool and headed along the Upper Witham collecting 12 bags of litter. This included numerous single use plastic drinks bottles and cans.

It was part of the national Spring Beach Clean Summit to Sea led by Surfers Against Sewage and partnered with British Canoeing.

Chantelle Grundy from Lincoln Canoe Club said: “As a canoe club we see first hand the detrimental impact litter has on our waterways and to the wildlife we share them with.

“It is great to take action locally and reach litter which others are unable too, each piece of litter removed is a small victory in the fight against plastic pollution.”

Other unusual finds from previous events included a garden shed, three fence posts, road signs and a garden fork.
