Man, 80, tragically killed when he pulled out into lorry’s path

An LGV collided with the offside of his vehicle

The inquest into the death of an 80-year-old man from near Spalding heard he was killed when he pulled out into the path of a LGV in Lincolnshire.

As previously reported, the crash happened on the A52 Drayton, Swineshead near the junction of Main Road at around 4pm on Wednesday, September 19.

Police previously named him as James (Jim) Hurley from Surfleet.

The inquest into his death was originally opened on November 16, 2018. The final hearing was concluded by Coroner Richard Marshall on Tuesday, April 23.

The inquest was told how he was driving a car and following his wife, who was in a hired vehicle.

He pulled out of a side road in Swineshead onto the A52 and into the path of an LGV. The LGV collided with the offside of the man’s vehicle.

He suffered catastrophic injuries from which he died at the scene. The conclusion at the inquest was that his death was caused by a road traffic collision.
