A17 crash victims were local couple in their 70s

Police said a man in his 50s is recovering in hospital

The two people who died after a crash on the Leadenham bypass on the A17 on Friday were a Lincolnshire couple in their late seventies.

As previously reported, emergency services were called to the scene of the crash involving a silver Vauxhall Zafira and a blue Mercedes low loader crane lorry at 1.15pm on Friday, May 24. Emergency service crews, including an air ambulance, attended the scene.

At the time police said three people were seriously injured. Police later confirmed at 7.40pm on Friday evening that the road had just been re-opened and that two people had died.

Police later confirmed over the weekend that the HGV driver, who is in his 50s, is recovering in Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

The force are also appealing for anyone who was in the area and has dashcam footage to get in touch by calling 101.
