Come on ref! Supporters call for pitch improvements approval

The original plans were refused last year

Hundreds of supporters have called on North East Lincolnshire Council to allow a winning goal over plans for major improvements to sporting facilities in Grimsby.

More than 460 people have written in support of the Bradley Football Development Centre proposals which would see two new artificial grass pitches set up at the Bradley Road facility – one stadium and one for the community.

Permission is also being sought for a floodlight system for one of the pitches as well as the upgrading of the current lighting facilities.

The plans would also create an additional 120 car parking spaces.

The council’s planning officers have recommended that the application is approved.

They conclude: “The proposal would provide enhanced facilities for a well established recreational facility that would result in improvements to sporting provision and associated infrastructure, along with benefits to the health and well-being of residents of North East Lincolnshire and by encouraging opportunities for social interaction of all ages.

“The proposal’s detailed impacts have also been fully considered to the area, to the environment and to neighbours with all representations both for and against, taken into account. Whilst the development would have impacts, these can be made acceptable through the use of planning conditions”

Original plans for the facilities were rejected last June after councillors raised concerns over noise and disturbance and highway safety. They had been recommended for approval.

The applicants hope changes to the new proposals will score with the committee – with supporters claiming it will increase participation in sport, promote active and healthy lifestyles, create a safe and secure environment and support local talent.

However, Bradley Parish Council has again refuted the proposal, along with 147 other objectors with concerns including noise, traffic, light pollution, anti-social behaviour and over-intensification of the site.
