Tributes paid to Boston murder victim

Messages of support have flooded in for friends and family of a 40-year-old man who died after an assault in Boston.

Darren Birks was seriously injured in the attack on April 29 on Ingram Road.

He was treated in hospital but sadly died from his injuries.

Cole Newark, 20, of Witham Bank in Boston, was previously arrested and charged with assault and has been remanded in custody as police launched a murder investigation.

News of Darren Birks’ death sparked a wave of tributes online.

A balloon launch has also been organised in his memory on Tuesday, May 14 near to Bank Park at 6.30pm.

Crystal Read wrote: “RIP Darren Birks. Such a sad loss. Thinking of all the family at this sad time, especially your babies. My heart goes out to you all.

“Sleep tight soldier. Fly high.”

Jackie Dowse wrote on the Lincolnshire Police Facebook page: “Condolences to Darren’s family, who I’ve known for most of my life. Always had time to say hello to you.”

Rosie Cutting said: “So sad. I knew him as a regular customer at work. Rest in peace.”

Sharon Foster added: “So so sad. RIP Darren. Thoughts and prayers are with your family.”

Detective Chief Inspector Karl Whiffen from East Midlands Special Operation Unit said previously: “First and foremost I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.

“This is now a murder investigation and our aim is to establish an accurate picture of what has occurred.

“I would ask people who have information, or who have witnessed the assault to get in touch with Lincolnshire Police.

“If you were in the Ingram Road area at 9.45pm on April 29 then please contact us.”
