Council picks theme for 2019 Lincoln Christmas Market

A Victorian feel to the Christmas market

The theme for the 2019 Lincoln Christmas Market will be Victoriana, in line with other events taking place in the city this year.

Victoriana can mean anything from the Victorian era or even Victorian-style Steampunk. Stallholders are being encouraged to make their stalls as festive as possible to win big prizes at the market, which will take place between December 5 to 8.

The market will start in the first year of a 10-year plan to increase the Christmas season plan for Lincoln.

This comes after the 2018 Lincoln Christmas Market made a £54,160 profit – the highest recorded in the past eight years – but it was less than what the council expected.

There were a variety of stalls, including an array of food and drink – The Lincolnite compiled a list of its top 20 highlights from 2018.

Prizes of £500, £300 and £200 will be up for grabs for the top three most festive stalls at the 2019 Lincoln Christmas Market. Stalls will be judged on best-dressed stallholder and best frontage (both must be Victoriana themed) before Visit Lincoln picks the winners.

Claire McDowall, Principal Events and Culture Officer at City of Lincoln Council, said: “Lincoln Christmas Market was originally based on a traditional German market, through our twinning with Neustadt in Germany, but over the years it has developed a more Victorian theme because of its historic surroundings.

“This year we want our stallholders to take it to the next level, and maybe they will be the one coming home after the market with a lovely bonus just in time for Christmas!”
