Man charged with multiple offences after Grimsby crash

He initially left the scene before being found

A 21-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences after a serious crash in Grimsby.

As previously reported, Humberside Police issued an appeal to help locate Karlis Jekabsons, who they believed may have been seriously injured in a crash at the junction of Littlefield Lane and Dudley Street at around 2am on Wednesday, June 5.

The crash involved a silver Ford Focus and a black Suzuki SX4. The man travelling in the Ford, believed to be Jekabsons, left the scene. He was later located before receiving treatment in hospital.

Jekabsons, of Cabourne Road in Grimsby, was charged by police with theft of a car, causing serious injury by driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance and driving whilst disqualified. He is due to appear at Grimsby Magistrates Court on Friday, June 7.

Police also confirmed that an 18-year-old man was also arrested in connection with the collision and bailed whilst enquiries continue.

Humberside Police previously said three other men and a woman, who were also in the Focus, were seriously injured and received treatment in hospital They were also arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.

A female passenger, who was in the Suzuki, suffered serious injuries to her wrist and abdomen and was also taken to hospital. The man driving sustained minor injuries.
