Opening date set for new Lincolnshire Co-op food store

They are also planning to move the pharmacy to Sincil Street

A brand new Lincolnshire Co-op food store will open in the city centre next month.

The Sincil Street Food Store will start serving customers at 7 am on Thursday, August 15.

It will replace the city square food store and coffee shop, which closed on Saturday, June 29.

Under the plans, Lincolnshire Co-op is also planning to move the pharmacy from the city square to an empty unit next to DAS Electricals.

The society aims to relocate the post office to alternative city centre premises but ideas are still being developed and there won’t be any movement before 2020.

The plan is to replace the City Square Centre entirely with a brand new building in keeping with the rest of the Cornhill Quarter.

But this is still in the early stages of planning while all tenants continue to trade as normal.

The new store from 18 to 20 Sincil Street, which will offer a “food to go” retail model, has also created 15 new jobs.

Store Manager Sharon Jones said: “We had a tour of the site recently while work was taking place. The team are all so excited about working there because it’s a new concept store for Lincolnshire Co-op.

“This ‘on-the-go’ store will provide a valued service to people using the bus and train station, city centre workers, shoppers and many more. We can’t wait to welcome our first customers through the doors!”
