Boston Millets to get historic shop front revamp

The former Millets closed after parent company Blacks was bought out in 2012
The owners of the former Millets are hoping to restore it to its former glory.

Plans to restore a prominent Boston Market Place shop in a “very poor state of repair” to its former glory, have been approved.

J&C Property Management Services have been given permission by Boston Borough Council to replace the shop front of the former Grade II Listed Millets store with works inspired by its mid 18th-late 19th century history.

The shop, which sits at the entrance to Dolphin Lane, has only seen use as a display centre since it closed in February 2012.

Praising the “vast improvements” to the store, council officers said: “The existing shop front is in a very poor state of repair and its appearance greatly detracts from the character and appearance of both the listed building and the historic area in general.”

The applicants have been looking to obtain grant funding to support their plans.

The former Millets store closed after parent company Blacks was bought out by JD Sports Fashion.

The designs are based on historical photographs which have been submitted as part of the application.

It was one of 90 UK underperforming Millets and Blacks stores to close following the deal.

It has since been mostly used for promoting local events, but, along with other empty shops, has been subject to local criticism for its appearance and effect on the aesthetic of Boston Market Place and town centre.
