Several men bravely detained another male to stop him from being aggressive and potentially very dangerous towards others before armed officers arrested him in North Hykeham early this morning.
As previously reported, firearms officers were deployed after an incident in North Hykeham on Tuesday morning and people reported significant police activity in the Tiber Road area.
The man was said to be acting in an aggressive manner and is believed to have stolen and damaged a man’s phone. A weapon was also later recovered, which police are now examining.
A 42-year-old male was arrested at 6.30am on Tuesday, September 10 when he also assaulted a police constable.
Police reassured people at the time saying there was ‘no ongoing risk in the area’ and it is being treated as an isolated incident.
Temporary Chief Inspector for Lincoln Simon Outen said: “We deployed firearms officers to the scene following a report of a man being in possession of a firearm.
“He was said to be acting in an aggressive manner and is believed to have stolen and then damaged a man’s phone.
“This man was not in possession of a firearm when officers attended, but we have now located a weapon which is being examined.
“This man is believed to have approached a number of people this morning and thank you to all who have made a report to the police.
“This allowed us to get to the scene quickly and arrest this man, who had already been detained by several men.
“We are grateful for their support and this brave intervention stopped the man from being aggressive and potentially very dangerous towards others.
“The suspect did however assault one of our constables during the arrest.”
“This is being treated as an isolated incident and if you haven’t yet spoken with us, please do so in one of the following ways quoting incident 32 of September 10.”
Any information regarding this incident should be reported to police on 101 or via email at [email protected].
