Campaigners will host a “mass unwrap” at a Lincoln supermarket this weekend to highlight what they call unnecessary packaging.
Plastic Free Lincoln will be at Sainsbury’s on Tritton Road from 12pm to 2pm on Sunday, October 6.
The group held their first “mass unwrap” on July 13 at Waitrose on Searby Road.
During the two-hour session, the volunteers collected 239 plastic wraps from 76 shoppers.
It is a friendly demonstration where customers can shop as normal and, after checkout, go to a volunteer and give them the plastic to either dispose of or recycle.
Louise Brown, the lead volunteer for the event, said: “We want to keep giving people in Lincoln the opportunity to tell supermarkets and the big brands that we want them to offer more packaging choices.
Around 80 shoppers got involved in two hours.
“Single-use plastic can often be avoided and I’d like to see more options for shoppers in big stores.”
The Plastic Free Lincoln group also said it has been working hard with local businesses to reduce single-use plastics on the High Street.
