Resurfacing works on the A46 in Faldingworth, North of Lincoln, will close off the road during daytime hours for three weeks.
A diversion will be in place in Faldingworth from Buslingthorpe Road to Jubilee Avenue from 7.30am to 6pm each weekday.
It will be subject to suitable weather conditions, but works are expected to start on Monday, November 11.
The signed diversion route will be through the A46 to Middle Rasen, A631 to Caenby Corner, A15 to Riseholme roundabout, A46 Lincoln Bypass to Nettleham roundabout and then the A46 to Faldingworth.
It will make the 13-mile journey from Middle Rasen into Lincoln into an 18-mile journey.
Lincolnshire County Council is working to provide access for residents, school buses, delivery vehicles, and emergency vehicles.
Councillor Richard Davies, the executive member for highways, said: “The A46 in Faldingworth to replace road surface that is nearing the end of its serviceable life.
“We’ll be halting work for fifteen minutes each morning and evening to allow schoolchildren a safe walking path to and from school.
“We’re also looking forward to having all of the Year 6 students visit the site so we can show them what we’re doing and why which may even get some of them interested in engineering.
“These improvements will make travelling on the A46 a safer and more comfortable journey, so we ask for your continued patience while these works are carried out.”
