Victoria and Albert exhibition opens at Lincoln museums

A special Victoria and Albert collection is now on display at two Lincoln museums.

The Collection Museum and the Usher Gallery is home to the treasures from October 5 to January 5.

The first-ever Christmas card, paintings by the chief portrait artist of the Royal family Sir Edwin Henry Landseer and a unique 12th century Gloucester Candlestick will all be at The Collection.

Just next door the Usher Gallery will host paintings of familiar faces like Sir Robert Peel and Henry John Temple, the 3rd Viscount Palmerston.

Councillor Nick Worth, the executive member for culture, said: “This year marks the 200th anniversary of the births of both Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and this illuminating exhibition is the perfect celebration.

“It showcases the crucial role that Victoria and Albert played in the development of the V&A and their wider influence on Victorian taste.

The special collection is from the Victoria and Albert museum and the National Portrait Gallery.

“The V&A and National Portrait Gallery are two of the world’s biggest artistic institutions and I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring a choice selection of their collections to Lincoln for people to enjoy.”

The Lincoln exhibition will be open from 10am to 4pm each day from October 5 to January 5. Tickets cost £5 for adults and £4 for concessions, but entry is free for children under 16.

It is an illuminating exhibition.

The exhibition will be complemented by a lecture by Dr Tristram Hunt, director of the V&A, taking place at Lincoln Cathedral on Thursday, October 10.
