Councillors delay decision on 120 homes in Winterton

It has raised “major concern”

A decision on a plan to build 120 new homes in Winterton, which raised fears of a “strain on local services”, was delayed by councillors.

The proposal by Gleeson Homes would see the development built on land off Top Road in the town.

But councillors decided on Wednesday (November 20) to defer the plan in order to make a site visit.

As part of the plan submitted to North Lincolnshire Council, a total of 42 two-bedroom, 72 three-bedroom and six four-bedroom houses have been proposed.

The developer said in its proposal that the homes will help to provide “low cost housing” and better choice for local people.

However, councillors said the plan raised issues over local services, drainage and transport.

Councillor Helen Rowson, who represents the area, said she had “major concerns” over highways, particularly access to the A1077.

Meanwhile, residents have raised fears that the town cannot cope with such a development.

In a letter to the authority Richard Goodwin, who lives on Bennett Drive, said: “I object to the plan due to the impact this development will have on the services in Winterton.

“We cannot sustain this amount of development with strains on doctors, transport and education already stretched.”

The decision follows fears that the town has seen a “flood of planning applications” with too many “pot shot” developments being proposed.

A further 135 homes are planned off Cemetery Road in the town and a proposal for 66 homes on North Street was lodged in September.
