Second person dies on tracks near Grantham in two days

British Transport Police also confirmed that a man in his 60s died yesterday

A second person has died on the train tracks near Grantham station in as many days.

British Transport Police (BTP) attended the lines in Claypole just before 7am on Wednesday morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics also attended but the person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and officers will prepare a file for the coroner.

BTP also confirmed that a man in his 60s sadly died on the tracks near Grantham on Tuesday.

Some services have been cancelled and there are delays of up to 90 minutes on a number of routes. Disruption is anticipated to continue until around 10am.

National Rail Enquiries is advising that the following routes are affected:

  • Grand Central between London Kings Cross and Bradford Interchange/Sunderland
  • Hull Trains between London Kings Cross and Hull/Beverley
  • LNER between London Kings Cross and Lincoln / Bradford Forster Square / Leeds / York / Newcastle / Edinburgh / Glasgow Central / Aberdeen

Buses will be running between Peterborough and Grantham from 8.40am.
