Stamford man dies in A1 pile-up

Two other people were taken to hospital

A 39-year-old man from Stamford has died after a five-vehicle crash on the A1 southbound at Eaton Socon in Cambridgeshire.

Cambridgeshire Police were called to reports of a collision between a lorry, a silver Volkswagen Golf, a blue van, a blue Ford Fiesta and a black Mini at 6.42pm on Monday, December 9. It happened on the slip road joining the A1 from Eaton Socon.

A man, who was the driver of the Volkswagen Golf, was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but died on the evening of Tuesday, December 10. He has since been named as Matthew Mitchell, of Emlyns Gardens in Stamford.

Two other people were taken to hospital with minor injuries and have since been discharged.
