Brexit Day: How does Boston feel about leaving the EU?

Local Democracy Reporters went to Boston to find out how voters felt about the historic event

People in Boston have said they are “relieved” and “happy” about the country leaving the European Union on Brexit Day.

The UK will leave the EU at 11pm on January 31, 2020, and enter an 11 month transition period where political leaders will thrash out a deal on a future arrangement.

Back in June 2016, Boston was the highest Brexit voting constituency in the UK with 75.6% of people choosing to leave the union.

The county as a whole was one of the most Eurosceptic in the UK and Boston was joined by both East Lindsey District Council and South Holland District Council in voting more than 70% each to leave.

Many residents have chosen to mark the day by flying the Union flag.

Our Local Democracy Reporters went to Boston to find out how voters felt about the historic day.

Many expressed pleasure that the day had finally come, while others were less-fussed and more accepting of their fate.
