Drone outwits man hiding from police in Gainsborough

Another successful result for Lincolnshire Police Drones

A 29-year-old assault suspect was arrested after a police drone caught him hiding behind a car in Gainsborough.

Officers attended a property in Gainsborough after a call at 11.46pm on Thursday, January 2 reporting an assault.

Lincolnshire Police’s drone operator was deployed to the incident from its Lincoln base. Police began a search for a man wanted in connection with the incident, who was found and arrested in the early hours of Friday morning.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “Aided by our drone team, a 29-year-old man was located at around 2.30am this morning (January 3). He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault.”

It represented another successful result for the drone unit and Special Sergeant Kev Taylor, Chief Pilot, told Lincolnshire Reporter: “Once again this result shows how’s the ongoing investment in cost effective drone technology is crucial in modern day policing.

“The reality is without the drone we may not of apprehended the alleged offender as soon as we did, ensuring safeguarding of others and a resulting in prompt investigation in to the alleged offence.”
