Lincoln teen arrested over right wing terrorism offences

Police have arrested a 19-year-old from Lincoln accused of terrorism offences.

The teenager was arrested in the Highfields area of Leicester at around 7am on Tuesday, January 7 under the Terrorism Act 2006.

It was a pre-planned operation carried out by counter-terrorism officers from the East Midlands special branch.

Chief Superintendent Jon McAdam said: “A 19-year-old man from Lincoln was arrested in the Highfields area of Leicester this morning on suspicion of offences under the Terrorism Act 2006.

“This was a pre-planned operation carried out by Counter Terrorism officers from East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) Special Branch and the man is now in police custody.

“The alleged offences relate to the encouragement of terrorism and dissemination of a terrorist publication. This relates to extreme right-wing terrorism.”
