Man jailed for knife threats, robbery and starting fire at ex’s house

A 30-year-old man, who deliberately started a fire at his ex-partner’s house and also threatened a woman and her daughter with a knife, was jailed for 10 years at Grimsby Crown Court.

Christoper Webster, of Victoria Terrace in Newark, appeared in court on January 7 and pleaded guilty to arson with intent to endanger life, two counts of robbery, dangerous driving and malicious communications. The charges relate to an incident on July 23, 2019.

Webster deliberately started a fire at his ex-partner’s house at around midday before making calls and sending messages to her and her family.

He then left the property and went to Churchill Road in Newark, where he threatened a woman and her daughter with a knife before stealing the woman’s car. Webster then drove to a store on Hawton rode and stole a bottle of wine before driving off.

Webster also committed a robbery in Immingham, Lincolnshire later the same day and was arrested after a short police pursuit.

Mark Dickson, Detective Sergeant at Nottinghamshire Police, who investigated the case, said: “This was a spree of criminal offences where Webster showed little regard for the safety of others.

“The investigation was complex, as detectives had to work through a number of different incidents and piece together multiple timelines to understand the events of the day.

“I am glad the outcome in this case reflects how serious these offences were and shows Nottinghamshire Police’s commitment to keeping people safe.

“This was a joint effort and I would like to thank Humberside Police and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service for their support with this investigation.”
