Police sergeant bitten and kicked in Grantham

Two people were taken into custody

A Lincolnshire Police sergeant was allegedly bitten and kicked by two people in Grantham over the weekend.

Sergeant Dan McCormack was assaulted whilst dealing with the same public order incident in Grantham Market Place, which was reported to police at 3am on Sunday, January 5.

He was kicked twice to the ribs by one and bitten twice on the arm by the other. An 18-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were both arrested and released on bail.

PAVA spray was deployed and McCormack said “thankfully the bite didn’t break the skin”. He later thanked everyone for their support saying there was “no lasting damage”.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said incident 31 of January 5 referred to a report of an assault on a police officer where there was an minor injury.

Deputy Chief Constable Jason Harwin was among the people to reply to sergeant McCormack’s Twitter post saying: “Sorry you’ve been assaulted. Hope you are ok. I will DM you.”
