Man and teen arrested over attempted Cleethorpes ATM raid

It comes amid a spate of attacks in the area

A man and a teenage boy have been arrested in connection with an attempted ATM theft in Cleethorpes.

It’s the latest in a string of four ATM incidents in the North East Lincolnshire area in the last couple of weeks.

The attempted theft happened in the early hours of Tuesday, March 24 at the service station on Grimsby Road.

Humberside Police said enquiries are underway to establish if the reported incidents are connected and detectives are appealing for information.

Detective Inspector Tom Kelly said: “We are currently investigating four separate attacks on cash machines in the North East Lincolnshire area and enquiries are ongoing to establish if they could be connected.

“Thankfully only one of the incidents has resulted in money being stolen, however we know the impact that offences of this nature can have for the local community who are often left without the use of the machine for some time as a result of such attacks.

“I want to appeal to the public today to please be vigilant and report anything suspicious to us, particularly anyone that lives near a cash machine. We take all reports of this nature incredibly seriously, deploying officers quickly to secure any evidence.

“I do want to thank everyone that has called in with information about the four incidents, your calls really do help us piece together the wider picture, helping us to make arrests.

“If you do have any information about crime in our area please call our non-emergency 101 line or 999 in an emergency or if there is a crime in progress. Alternatively you can report information anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.”
