Lincoln crematorium open for funerals only

A number of restrictions have already been in place

Lincoln Crematorium will now only open for funeral services after the authority shut the Gardens of Remembrance today.

The crematorium already had a series of restrictions in place including the waiting room being closed, enhanced cleaning of facilities and visitors being discouraged from touching coffins.

The reception and book of remembrance rooms were also both closed.

Simon Colburn, assistant director for health and environment said: “We have made the decision to shut the Gardens of Remembrance at Lincoln Crematorium until further notice.

“This means that the whole of the crematorium site is now closed to the public except to those attending funeral services.

“This is following government advice and regulations to ensure we comply with social distancing requirements and reduce the risk of infection for staff and the public so we can continue to provide valuable services.”

Cemeteries across the city, however, remain open.
