£3k reward for man who ‘wiped substance on teen girl’s face’

Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £3,000 for information about an alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl as she walked to school in Scunthorpe.

An unknown man followed the 16-year-old schoolgirl and approached her from behind on Foxhils Road. He smeared an unknown clear substance across her face, in her eyes and mouth, before assaulting her on Foxhills Road at around 9am on Tuesday, January 28.

After being inappropriately touched, the girl screamed and the man ran from the area in the direction of Reginald Road into a wooded area. The teen was taken to hospital, but was not injured and remains understandably distressed.

Earlier this year, Humberside Police released an E-fit of a man, who they asked for help to identify.

The offender is described as being white and around thirty-years-old. He was wearing a baseball cap with a white image or motif, a black top and trousers with what appeared to be a camouflage pattern on them.

Now, nearly six months on Crimestoppers have launched a campaign to gather key information about the sexual assault.

The independent charity is offering a reward of £3,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the sexual assault.

To be eligible for the reward, the information must be given exclusively to Crimestoppers either via an untraceable anonymous online form or by calling 0800 555 1111.

Gemma Gibbs, Crimestoppers Regional Manager for Yorkshire & the Humber, said: “This is a horrifying crime against a child innocently making her way to school. We hope that our reward encourages people to come forward with any information they know about it.

“Our charity believes that everyone has the right to walk the streets safely without experiencing harm. We don’t want another child or anybody else to be assaulted by this dangerous individual.

“If you have any suspicions at all about who may be responsible for this crime, or if you witnessed something, perhaps you saw this man in the vicinity of Ferry Road, Henderson Avenue or Foxhills Road, please do the right thing and get in touch with our charity. Nobody will ever know you contacted us, only you.”
