Speed limit to drop to 30mph on South Park Avenue

One councillor said it was a “no-brainer”

Councillors have approved the extension of a 30mph speed limit on the road outside the new emergency services hub on South Park Avenue in Lincoln.

Currently the road is covered by both 40mph and 30mph, but bosses of the organisations sharing the build wanted the lower limit expanded to Canwick Road to cover the entrance to the site and improve safety.

Members of Lincolnshire County Council’s Planning and Regulation Committee voted unanimously in favour of the plans at a meeting on Monday.

Where the 40mph limit (purple) is currently.

Councillor Robin Renshaw said: “As far as the traffic is concerned it’s a no-brainer but there’s also a by-product as it will improve the air quality for the two schools in that area and the many pedestrians that walk down there.”

He added that he hoped the road would in the future also include a cycle lane.

Tests carried out at each end of the road found average speeds between 27mph and 35mph.

The plans will now go to consultation.
