Tributes to Lincolnshire doctor who died with coronavirus

A second staff member from Boston Pilgrim Hospital has died with COVID-19.

Dr Rudresh Pathak, 65, died at the end of June after a long battle with coronavirus, which lasted over 80 days.

He was admitted to hospital on March 24, before being put on a ventilator and moved to an intensive care unit three days later.

Dr Pathak stayed in ICU for 81 days, before showing signs of recovery and moving to a general ward on June 7, receiving a standing ovation from fellow NHS staff members.

Unfortunately, he suffered a stroke on June 19 and ultimately died a week later.

Rudresh Pathak is Boston Pilgrim Hospital’s second coronavirus fatality, after nurse Anujkumar Kuttikkottu Pavithran died in April.

Dr Pathak had worked for Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust for 29 years, first becoming a consultant psychiatrist in 1991.

He was born in Uganda in 1954 and studied medicine in an Indian medical college before moving to the UK in 1980.

He and his wife lived in Boston.

Brendan Hayes, chief executive at Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We were extremely saddened to hear the news about Dr Rudresh Pathak’s death and we have shared our sincere condolences with his wife and family.

“Rudresh was a very popular member of staff who provided support and encouragement to those with whom he came into contact, both professionally and personally.

“He worked with several teams during his extensive career as a psychiatrist in the Trust and the impact of his death has been felt far and wide.

“He was a very well liked and respected member of the team and his many friends and colleagues will miss him dearly.”

A funeral has been organised for Tuesday, July 7, with the hearse driving Rudresh through the hospital grounds at around 12.30pm.
