Sports bar to reopen with new name and owners

It will open on Friday

A Lincoln sports bar will reopen with a new name and ownership after national chain Rileys collapsed into administration this summer.

Rileys went bust in July before Paul Morgan and his family purchased the assets of the Lincoln site on Silver Street towards the end of August, which he had been general manager at for 10 years.

The venue will open under the new name of Cube and Triangle at 6pm on Friday, September 18.

It has been redecorated and modernised inside, with a lot of maintenance done to bring the venue up to standard and local independent companies used to carry out the work where possible.

The new owners have also looked at ways to reduce carbon footprint, such as LED bulbs and going paperless.

Three of the original five staff, including Paul, will remain and the other two have found alternative jobs in different industries.

Cube and Triangle is located next to The Taste on Silver Street.

Paul told The Lincolnite the family took the opportunity to purchase the venue to secure their jobs and he wanted to own a premises after being in the industry for around 20 years.

It will still be a members’ club offering snooker, pool, darts and table tennis, but they are moving it more towards social entertainment than a working men’s club.

The bar will also serve food and drink including pizzas, burgers, chicken wings and wraps.

Paul said: “We are very excited and looking forward to opening. It is a bit of a scary time at the moment with COVID and all the restrictions and not the greatest time to open a new venue, but I think it can also be a great time.”

Social distancing measures will be in place, including the tables being spread apart, and there will also be hand sanitising stations.

The venue will be open from 11am-11pm Sunday-Thursday and 11am-1am on Frdays and Saturdays.

Rileys Lincoln confirmed the sale of the venue on its Facebook page.

Membership for the year is priced at £6 per person and members can bring a guest at a cost of £1 per person per visit.

Concessions are also available for senior citizens and public sector workers (£5 per person for the year) and £4 for anyone under 18.

There is also an offer for anyone who was a member of Rileys when it closed, who can bring their card in with them before October 31 to get a free year’s membership.
